Preston Park is set to host a brand new 5,000-capacity city music festival.

Together The People Festival will bring two days of international, national and local-breaking rock and indie acts to two stages on Saturday, September 5, and Sunday, September 6.

It is the brainchild of concert promoters One Inch Badge, working alongside music venue Concorde 2, in Madeira Drive, and Brighton and Hove City Council festival.

Organiser James McKeown said: “A lot of people have attempted to come to the city and do large scale open air events, but for whatever reason haven’t succeeded.

“Those events haven’t considered the city as a whole. We want this festival to be for the people of Brighton.”

There will have no camping onsite and a curfew of 10pm each night, although McKeown expects venues including Concorde 2 will host afterparties.

Mr McKeown added: “The location was vital for us.

“We have spoken to sports and residential groups around Preston Park and everyone has been 100 per cent supportive.

“We wanted to appeal to families and professionals who can’t make their way out of the city for the festival experience of Latitude or Bestival.

“We will deliver a high quality event in the city that people can walk to – the site is only ten minutes from Brighton Station, it’s on a major bus route and even has its own train station.

“New music has been catered for with The Great Escape, and the modern dance market is covered with Shakedown and Wild Life (see below).

“There’s definitely a gap for something more towards folk, indie, rock and pop.”

City cinemas Duke Of York’s Picturehouse and Duke’s At Komedia are working with Together The People to provide what is described as “a unique festival experience”.

And the festival is keen to hear from city community groups and charities for their spoken word Soapbox area, offering a platform to reach festivalgoers.

There are plans to add comedy, literature, spoken word and theatre elements to the stage which McKeown describes a community hub.

Ticket prices are yet to be revealed, but McKeown has said they will be kept as low as possible to make the event accessible, with under-11s entering for free.
