Packing out Shoosh on Saturday afternoon were former buskers from the streets of Melbourne, Pierce Brothers.
The identical twins brought an infectiously energetic vibe to the The Great Escape venue, with dare we say it even some dancing going down at the front – which was a rare sight over the three days of the festival. (Were the crowd simply too hip to dance? Answers on a postcard please.) Appealing very much to the Levellers’ demographic, these two will no doubt be a huge hit on the festival circuit this summer.
Playing songs from their recent EP, The Night Tree, the brothers’ sound drew the inevitable comparisons with Mumford & Sons, but this will probably act in their favour.
For just two performers, they created a big sound, acoustic guitars being joined by harmonica, a didgeridoo and a kick drum to storming effect.
Jack and Pat have recently signed to Free Trade Agency in the UK, home to Ed Sheeran, War on Drugs, St Vincent, and if they crack radio with a track such as the undeniably catchy It’s My Fault they could find themselves in demand for many more festivals in the future. Toe tapping fun.
