MYSTERY surrounds a 300-metre water slide that is on its way to the city.

The announcement by American company Slide the City has created a buzz of excitement across Brighton and Hove – but nobody knows anything about it.

The Argus has made countless attempts to contact the company without any joy and Brighton and Hove City Council have not been contacted about it.

A council spokesman said: “I’m not sure whether or not it’s going to be held on private land, in which case we wouldn’t need to get involved, but the company has not been in touch with us.”

News of the new slide comes two months after the visit of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's (RNLI) slipway slide.

As well as Brighton, dozens of other locations have been listed by the company’s website as locations for the giant slide, but that is the extent of the detail.

The Slide in the City website states: “Summer time is upon us, and we are bringing over 300 metres of slick vinyl to brighten your city.

“Come dressed to impress because it’s not every day you can strut through town with your hot bod, cool dance moves and slick slides.

“Did we mention 300 metres? Yeah, that’s about three football pitches.

“Slide the City is a family friendly slip-and-slide water party event.

“There will be live music, food, drinks, water, and of course the biggest slip-and-slide that you’ve ever seen.

“Don’t worry, we’ve got it padded.

“This slide’s got more cushion than your grandpa’s orthopaedic shoes.

“Make sure to bring your water buckets, floaties, and water guns (non-realistic of course), to squirt, spray, splash, and get all attending soaked.”

No date has yet been set for the Brighton event.

The only confirmed dates so far are North London on June 13, Bristol on June 20 and Manchester and July 18.

Both events in June are being held at showgrounds, while the Manchester event will be at Manchester City Council’s Farm Centre.

The Argus contacted Brighton Racecourse to see if they had been contacted by the company to host the event, but they were in the cold too.

The website states the charge is £10 for one slide, those wishing to slide three times between midday and 5pm can do so for £20 and VIP riders receive a number of goodies and can go as many times as they like for £35.

Sliders must be five years old or 116cm tall to slide.
