A FIRE in an electric unit sent six fire engines to an office complex.

Smoke filled ground and first floors of a three-storey business hub after an electrical extractor unit above a toilet caught fire.

The fire happened in business units in Discovery Park, Gatwick Road, Crawley, at about 8.20am yesterday.

Fire crews were sent from Crawley, Horsham and Haywards Heath as well as another from Reigate, across the county border in Surrey.

Eight firefighters used breathing gear to carry hoses and carbon dioxide extinguishers into the building and tackle the blaze.

Other crews used a special camera to check for hot spots and isolated the electrics before blowing out smoke with a fan.

Cause: accidental.
