A 23-year-old man was threatened with a knife on Brighton beach by a gang who attempted to steal his bag.
The victim was sitting between the Palace Pier and The Doughnut statue at 3.15pm when he was approached by a group of men who threatened him with a knife and attempted to take his bag.
The victim managed to get away and no one suffered any injuries.
Detective Constable Rachel Piggott said: "We would like to speak to anyone who saw the incident and may be able to help us with our investigation."
Two men, both aged 18, and two boys, aged 16 and 17, all from Brighton, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery. They have been questioned and released on bail until Friday 3 July.
