Vandals blew up four parking meters with fireworks in a renewed spate of attacks.

The four units were attacked on Sunday night and a fifth was daubed with paint after in attacks erieely similar to series of incidents on vandalism in 2012. 

The damage to the machines is estimated at £4500.

Two were attacked with a firework and paint respectively in the Phoenix Causeway car park and fireworks were used to damaged machines in Friars Walk, Garden Street and Southover Road.

Detective Constable Julie Cocklin said: "A man was seen to run off towards the town centre after an explosion alerted residents to an attack in Friars Walk around 10pm.

"Two fireworks were also heard in the Southover area between 8pm and 10pm that evening, so it is possible that the offender was moving from that area on towards the town around that time.
