TWO people were taken to hospital after the car they were travelling in crashed and rolled off the road and on to its roof.

The accident, involving a Land Rover Discovery and a Toyota Avensis, happened on the A275 near the junction of North Hall Lane north of Sheffield Park just after noon today.

A 60-year-old man and his female passenger were freed from the rolled Toyota by two fire crews from Uckfield, who had to take the off roof with hydraulic cutting gear.

Both were treated at the scene by ambulance crews, including an air ambulance, for bruises and potential pelvic injuries and taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

The woman's injuries were described as serious, though not thought to be life-threatening.

Five people in the Land Rover were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The vehicles involved were recovered and the road was reopened around 3.40pm.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting serial 582 of 28/05.
