MOTORISTS got an unexpected car wash after a broken fire hydrant sent a geyser of water dozens of feet into the air.
South East Water was alerted to a problem with a fire hydrant in North Quay Road, Newhaven at approximately 8am this morning.
A technician was immediately sent to investigate, shutting down the water supply to the hydrant while the repair was undertaken.
The hydrant was fully repaired within two hours.
Ann Seach, South East Water distribution manager, said: “A small number of properties in the nearby area were affected by low water pressure or no water for a short period while the repair was carried out.
“I would like to apologise to the local community for any inconvenience caused while we worked to fix the fire hydrant.”
