A woman who won a wad of cash on TV's Deal or No Deal by opening a box of cash now has a bundle of joy.

Jasmine Khalique, 31 of St Aubyns, Hove gave birth to eight-week-old Kailen just after her television appearance on the Channel 4 gameshow hosted by Noel Edmonds.

Kailen is now officially the first Deal or No Deal baby.

In the show 22 boxes, each with a hidden monetary value, are chosen until the final one. After each round of knocking boxes out the show's enigmatic banker offers the contestant money for the box, which could have a value of between 1p and £250,000.

After the offer is made Noel Edmonds asks: Deal or no deal?"

A proud Jasmine, who is married to Mike, 31, said: "Kailen is doing fine and the money I won has come in handy as I'm self-employed."

The IT recruiter won £14,400 on the show and was also present when its first £250,000 prize was won.

She said: "When I was working from home I used to catch Deal or No Deal. One evening Mike said he was going to be home late so I put the programme on and I had the laptop out. It was asking viewers to enter their competition to win money.

"I went on their website but it wouldn't connect to the competition so I applied to appear instead and I thought nothing more of it.

"In July last year I had a phone call out of the blue asking if I would still like to appear on the show. Mike was really pleased as it gave me something else other than the pregnancy to focus on."

After an audition filming started late last year for Jasmine and she appeared in 20 shows before getting her chance to answer the question: Deal or no deal?

She said: "All of the fellow contestants were really lovely and it was a proper family atmosphere as we all stayed together in the hotel for the weeks we were filming.

"Noel's lovely and the audience was so warm. When people are upset on the show and there are tears, I used to watch it and think: 'It's not that upsetting' but everyone has a real reason for being there and you get caught up in it.

"You really want them to win as you are not in competition against anyone and people are there wanting to help you win by revealing the right numbers."

She added that she had made real friends while on the programme and all have wished her, Mike and Kailen well. She said: "It was a really great experience."

A spokesperson for Channel Four congratulated the family on the birth and reported the news to the banker who said: "Six pounds? I would have offered her a fiver."
