STEVEN Gerrard eat your heart out – his seven-year-old namesake looks set for a big future after notching an incredible 97 goals in one season.

Blaze Gerrard-Carl Brown, seven, from Brighton, has been catching the eye of football scouts thanks to his amazing performances for Woodingdean Youth Blue under-sevens.

From dribbling past hapless defences to scoring from the half-way line, Blaze’s 97 goals in just one league season is thought to be one of the highest tallies ever recorded.

He also scored 16 other goals in two separate tournaments during the campaign.

Blaze, who was named after former Liverpool and England star Steven Gerrard, was invited to play in a tournament at Brighton and Hove Albion’s training ground on Tuesday and has also been invited to Chelsea football club’s academy in Crawley.

Blaze told The Argus that his favourite pick of his 97-goal haul came from the half-way line. He said: “I spotted the keeper off his line and I scored. One day I’d like to play for Liverpool and be the new Steven Gerrard.”

Blaze’s father Carl, a huge Liverpool fan, said: “He plays in the Sussex Sunday Youth League, under-sevens west division. He scored 16 goals in one game once – and he played one half of that in goal.

“I’m not sure where he gets it from. I was a defender so never got any glory myself, but he plays pretty much each day of the week and is developing into a really good player.

“He has a lot of skill, is quick and has a wicked left foot.”

Mr Brown, 37, of Coolham Drive, Brighton, said he would love for his maestro son to one day play in the Premier League.

He said: “He loves to play. He’s so passionate and even at seven can be seen talking to his team-mates and telling all what to do on the pitch and getting people going.

“Watching him score unbelievable goals and do well makes me so proud. We just want him to succeed in life. He’s been invited to play at different clubs but I don’t think they’ll actually take him on until he’s at least nine – but people have their eye on him.”
