The dispute over the Brighton Wheel’s future with rival attraction i360 has taken another twist after a key meeting was delayed.

Councillors were due to come to a decision on the planning permission for the Wheel to remain in Madeira Drive until May 2021.

Planning officers had recommended the councillors grant the 50 metre Ferris wheel permission to stay for a further five years.

But Wheel bosses say the decision will now be delayed for a further three weeks after a last-minute complaint launched by lawyers on behalf of rival attraction i360.

If the Wheel does get planning permission, it will still need to convince council officers to extend their lease and highway consent which expires next summer.

Planning chair Julie Cattell confirmed that the Wheel application had been deferred until the next meeting.
