MORE than 30 people were thrown out of the first day of Sussex’s largest ever music festival.

Five people were arrested and 26 others cautioned, mainly on suspicion of drink and drugs offences at the Wild Life festival in Shoreham Airport. All were excluded from the festival and forfeited the cost of their tickets.

But police said festival goers were generally good natured, and were also patient as they faced traffic delays getting to the venue, holding up shuttle buses laid on for the event, and when they left around midnight.

Superintendent Jim Bartlett, of Sussex Police, said: "We've worked closely with the event organisers to take positive action against people attending in possession of drugs or intent on causing trouble.

"As well as being dealt with by the police they will also be excluded and removed from the event by the organisers.

"We are looking forward to people watching Sunday's bands in a similarly safe and sensible manner."

The festival continues today with another 35,000 fans expected on site.

Electronic music duo Disclosure will headline the main stage with hip-hop legends Wu-Tang Clan and DJ Annie Mac.

In the Warehouse Project tent, techno supremo Seth Troxler will be joined by Julio Bashmore, Paul Wool- ford, Eats Everything and more.

Drum and Bass musician Andy C heads proceedings in the Treatment vs Bedlam tent. Main stage acts finish at 11pm, other stages will continue until midnight.

There is no public transport after the event so visitors are asked to make sure they have transport arranged or tickets booked for the festival’s official shuttle buses.
