TRIBUTES have been paid to a "generous, loving and wonderful daughter" who has died after being hit by a car.

Rebecca Long, 21, from Brighton, died in hospital on Saturday due to injuries from a crash last Thursday.

The former Brighton and Hove High School pupil was studying at Cambridge University and was walking along Huntingdon Road in Cambridge when she was hit.

Last night her parents, Anne and Philip, paid tribute to their daughter.

They told The Argus: "Our wonderful daughter Rebecca will be so sadly missed by us and her brothers Alex and David.

"She was the most generous, loving and kind person. Rebecca attended Brighton and Hove High School, followed by A Levels at Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College, and excelled at both.

"This led to her achieving a place at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, to study chemical engineering, where she made many friends who will also greatly miss her."

Sidney Sussex College senior tutor Max Beber said yesterday that the college was "shocked and saddened" by news of the popular third-year student's death.

He added: "She was a bright chemical engineering student, and played a full part in college life.

"She was a valued friend to many in college and the university, and will be much missed."

Friends have also remembered an "amazing girl with the kindest heart and sense of humour".

Hannah Templeman, a third-year chemical engineering student at Clare College, told The Cambridge News: "In the chemical engineering department you always knew when Becca was around from her laugh.

"She made everyone feel like they really mattered to her which, is why she had so many friends who loved being around her."

She added: "I don't think I've ever met anyone who was as easy to get along with as Becca, and we all feel so blessed to have been her friend and honoured that we could be part of her life."

Cambridge Police said the driver of the red Mazda stopped to help after the incident.

Officer James Thorne appealed for witnesses.

He said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who saw a lone woman walking along Huntingdon Road or close to the area, in the lead up to the collision."

Anyone with information was asked to contact the road policing unit on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
