SCHOOL leavers marked the end of an era with a glitzy prom.

The youngsters from Peacehaven Community School went to the ball at Pelham House in Lewes on Thursday.

Aside from glittering gowns and sharp suits, the spectacle saw fire-eaters and stilt-walkers, a disco and special photographs.

More than 150 students turned up to the event.

Sylvie Newman, a teacher at the school, said it was an emotional evening.

She said: “It was a lovely goodbye event for our year-11s as we see them off.

“It’s our way of elegantly saying farewell to them.”

Having overseen several proms in her time at the school she added: “This one was amazing – this year group just knew how to party.

“But they were impeccably behaved and absolutely brilliant.”

The teenagers will now go their own ways for the summer before potentially moving on to college or into an apprenticeship to further their education.
