A CHARITY has been celebrating 100 years of life-saving.
Members of St John Ambulance held a special event to mark the anniversary of the foundation of its Brighton division in June 1915.
The celebration featured a lunch, awards, speeches, first aid displays and an exhibition of St John memorabilia and photos.
Brighton St John Ambulance was founded by councillor and chemist Chas Yates, who died in 1931.
The first volunteers in Brighton played a vital role in providing casualty transportation and medical care in the First World War.
Since then hundreds of people have joined the division and learnt lifesaving skills to provide first aid at sporting and public events.
Adult unit manager Kevin Folkes said: “Volunteers are the face of St John Ambulance charitable work.
“If you are over 18, and want to help us save lives in Brighton we would love you to join our team.”
