A man is due to be sentenced after being caught with an estimated £5,000 worth of heroin.

Jason Mark Goodman, 43, was picked up in Portslade and admitted possessing the class A drug with intent to supply when he appeared before magistrates in Brighton.

Goodman was remanded to Lewes Crown Court for sentencing following his court appearance.

Officers from Brighton and Hove's crime reduction team responded to a report of a man using drugs in a car on May 27.

They went to Bush Farm Drive in Portslade, where Goodman, of Stanley Park Road, Carshalton, Surrey was found in a Skoda Fabia.

Searches revealed a substantial quantity of heroin in the car.

PC Georgina Edge said: "Thanks to a concerned member of the public, who saw Goodman smoking heroin in his car, we were able to intervene.

"It allowed us to take a large amount of heroin out of circulation and also prevent the offender from drug-driving."
