A FORMER fruit market set to be levelled to make way for a £100 million development was given a dramatic send-off by performers.
Brighton and Hove community groups joined developers Cathedral Group in a final showcase of dance and performance, arts and recycling at the Circus Street market building to mark the closure of the building ahead of redevelopment.
The former market will be levelled to make way for a new development with student accommodation, university library, dance studio, housing, cafes and shops.
Market traders displayed old market memorabilia and a 32-foot Airstream caravan was a backdrop to a ‘pop up’ gallery of young Brighton artists while entertainment included a dance performance from the Urban Playground Group with South East Dance, the Hoopers Fire Show and music performances from the Iron Boot Scrapers.
Over the past two years, the Brighton venue has hosted hundreds of community sessions and 88 events for more than 50,000 visitors.
