A FORMER England star is among more footballers confirmed to compete in a memorial match today for a fan who died after falling from a building site.

Former Portsmouth, Tottenham Hotspur and England international Darren Anderton will appear as a guest in a match paying tribute to Dave Clark.

The 55-year-old Hove carpenter was a lifelong Glasgow Rangers Football Club (FC) fan, earning the nickname Brighton Dave on tours around the world.

He fell 20ft while working on a stable block at Stanmer Park last September and was airlifted to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, London, in a critical condition.

He went into a coma and died at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, after a four-week fight for his life.

Former Brighton and Hove Albion, Worthing and Eastbourne player Stuart Tuck, who is now a PE teacher at Varndean Secondary School, will also play in the Glasgow Rangers Legends v South Coast Legends match at Bognor Regis’s ground in Nyewood Lane at 2pm.

He will be joined by ex-Portsmouth FC players and managers, Guy Whittingham and Andy Awford, as well as former Fulham, AFC Wimbledon and Bognor player Duncan Jupp on the South Coast Legends team.

The likes of ex-England international players Mark Walters and Graham Roberts, Northern Ireland’s record goal scorer David Healy and ex-Scottish international Andy Goram were confirmed in The Argus last month.

In November more than 900 people wearing Rangers scarves attended a service at All Saints Church, The Drive, Hove, for Mr Clark.

Ex-England international players Terry Hurlock and Mark Falco, Scotland’s Alex Rae and Dutch player Michael Mols were also confirmed to play for the Glasgow Rangers Legends team in the contest at Bognor Regis Town FC, another team Mr Clark supported.

In the lead up to this week’s event more players have been confirmed to take part.

Kick off is at 2pm followed by a post-match dinner.

Tickets can be bought on the day costing £10 for adults and £5 for under-16s.

Businesses have donated gifts for an auction and raffle.
