ONE driver had an unfortunate start to the day when a tree branch scythed through his lorry.

Witnesses said the lorry pulled into Clifton Road, Worthing, and went to let another vehicle past before hitting the branch which impaled the vehicle.

They described the branch as "like a giant can opener" and it sliced open the side leaving the vehicle "severely damaged".

Resident Mick Symes said: "A large bodied lorry pulled slightly onto the curb to let a Transit van past and got firmly embeeded onto a tree branch - the tree scythed through the lorry, impaling it."

Officers from Sussex Police attended the scene and crews worked to release the lorry from the overhanging branch at just after 10am this morning.
