A KEY meeting to discuss the future of a £40 million development has been moved to a larger venue because of the scale of public interest in the project.

The planning committee meeting on the future of Worthing’s Aquarena site will be held on Tuesday, September 22 from 6.30pm in the town’s Assembly Rooms.

Roffey Homes has revealed amendments to the 21-storey development, including moving the towers back from Brighton Road, a redesign of the tallest element of the tower and increasing public space.

To meet the large public interest in the development of the former swimming pool site, the meeting has been moved to a bigger venue and more speakers on both sides of the debate will be allowed more time to make their case.

During the debate, up to five people for and five people against the application will be able to speak, with the length of their speaking time extended to three minutes.

Speakers will be selected by a special ballot.

Councillor Kevin Jenkins, planning committee chairman, said: “We are keen to ensure an open and transparent process is maintained throughout this debate and are trying to ensure that a representation of the wider public voice from across Worthing is heard on this matter.”

To register to speak to the planning committee, interested parties must contact the council by noon on Friday, September 11 via email democratic.services@adur-worthing.gov.uk or by calling 01903 221006.
