CYCLISTS will ride alongside the funeral procession of a beloved great-grandfather who was killed in a road rage stabbing.

Don Lock, 79, was a long standing member of the Worthing Excelsior Cycling Club and did upwards of 150 miles a week.

He was returning home from a club gathering when he was killed following a crash on the A24 in Findon near Worthing.

He leaves two children, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

At his funeral next month scores of cyclists are expected to accompany the procession which will go from Broadwater Green to Worthing Crematorium.

The cyclists will then form an arch with their bikes for Mr Lock before he is laid to rest.

Graeme Gill, chairman of Worthing Excelsior Cycling Club, said: “It was the family’s idea and it absolutely will be a fitting tribute. It will be brilliant.”

The procession will be accompanied by a rolling police roadblock as they head to the crematorium.

Both chapels at the crematorium have been reserved in anticipation of the numbers in attendance.

The family has asked that only family, close friends and club members go into the main chapel while all others paying their respects can watch the service on video screens in the second chapel.

Cyclists in the procession are asked to wear their own club colours.

Those attending the service should wear a combination of dark blue, light blue and white – the colours of the Worthing Excelsior club and Brighton and Hove Albion.

Mr Lock was a lifelong fan of the Seagulls.

The family has said they would prefer anyone wanting to bring flowers to just come with a single blue or white flower to place on the coffin.

Donations will go to the Help for Heroes charity.

Those wanting to take part in the procession should meet opposite the Broadwater Parish Rooms ahead of the 2.30pm start on August 12 – the service will start at 3pm.

A crowdfunding page is still running to get a statue of a bike built in Mr Lock’s memory. To donate go to gofundme.com/zq9h957q.
