MORE than 420 people have already signed up to walk off-shore to a lighthouse.

Three years ago celebrities such as Eddie Izzard joined a nationwide campaign to raise £27,000 to repaint Beachy Head lighthouse, at risk of falling into disrepair.

Martin Wellings from the local Rotary Club organised a walk along the beach so everyone could see it close up in its newly-painted glory.

The walk has now become an annual event, with the next taking place tomorrow (August 1).

Mr Wellings said the walk looks to be "the biggest and best Lighthouse Walk yet".

He said the "rare opportunity" was due to a low spring tide occurring at the right time during daylight hours.

People can still register for the walk by visiting eastbourneam.org/events.

Those taking part check in at the kiosk at the foot of the Downs by Bede's between 4.45pm and 5.15pm and get information of the walk and safety guidelines.

Mr Wellings added that the timings are important: "Maximum low water is forecast to be at 7.11pm BST, and sunset is 8.44pm BST."
