PRINCESS Eugenie brought a touch of royal glamour to Goodwood as she joined the county's great and good on Ladies' Day.

The racecourse was a sea of fancy frocks and eye-catching hats on the third day of action at the Qatar Goodwood Festival - previously known as Glorious Goodwood.

Celebrity spotters were not disappointed yesterday as the eighth in line to the throne enjoyed the thrills and spills of a day at the races.

Wearing a chic khaki jacket, flowing white dress and large silver hat, she got tongues wagging as she strolled around one of the course's exclusive enclosures with friends.

But the 25-year-old was not the only one turning heads as thousands of women dressed to the nines took to the stands.

Among them was Welsh trio Rebecca Henbury, 43, Sue Hurley, 45, and Jenny Rogers, 43, who made the trip from Cardiff for the eighth year in a row.

Rebecca said: “It’s been a brilliant day and we love it so much.

“My dress is from Debenhams and I chose it because it was a birthday present. We’ve seen some lovely ladies and outfits here today. It’s nice that everyone gets dolled up and comes together for what’s always a really good day out.”

Jenny added: “The views at Goodwood are just so stunning.

“I wasn’t going to buy a new dress but I thought a girlie must have something nice for the occasion so I went to an online boutique called Quiz.”

Sue added: “I’m having a lovely day but haven’t had a winner so far. I’m a bit rubbish at picking the horses.”

But it was not just a day for the ladies in the stands, it was also a successful day for them on the course with jockey Camilla Henderson winning the Magnolia Cup charity race on High Fidelity.

It was the fifth running of the all female jockey race which sees money raised for Amref - a charity which works to improve healthcare and quality of life in the poorest African regions.

Away from the big hats and stunning outfits, jockeys riding at the festival wore black armbands in memory of legendary commentator Sir Peter O'Sullevan, who died peacefully at his home in London on Wednesday aged 97.

To celebrate his long and distinguished career, racegoers applauded after the runners made their way to the start for the opening race at 2.05pm.

Do not miss Saturday's Argus for a special feature on this year's festival.
