ALBION boss Chris Hughton has urged his strikers to give Championship rivals a spot of bother – by winning more penalties.

An early spot-kick from Tomer Hemed after a push on the Israeli forward earned the Seagulls a 1-0 win over double Europa League winners Sevilla in yesterday’s closing pre-season friendly at the Amex.

Albion converted three penalties last season compared to the 11 scored by champions Bournemouth.

Hughton wants the total to rise to boost the goals for column.

He told The Argus: “That would be nice. Anything that can add to our goal tally is always good.

“Probably it was a little bit soft from where I was.

“Bournemouth got an incredible amount of penalties last season.

“It’s about getting the ball into the right areas, showing a real endeavour in the box and a little bit of cleverness in the box.

“In most of the pre-season games I’ve tended to go with two up front which you’d like to think gives you an opportunity to get an extra player closer to goal on a more regular basis.”

Hughton has not discounted more additions to the squad missing Spaniard Adrian Colunga due to illness before Friday’s League opener at home to Nottingham Forest (7.45pm).

He said: “We’re working on it and I certainly wouldn’t count anything out.

“A lot of clubs are in the same position as us.”
