A RETAINED firefighter was killed in a car crash while responding to an emergency call.
Paul Keenor, 23, from Ashurst Wood, a building contractor and a retained firefighter with the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, died after the crash on Saturday night.
He was travelling in a Toyota Celica and died after it crashed into a wall at Ashurst Wood, near East Grinstead, at 11.55pm.
He had been a crew member at Forest Row fire station since 2011.
It is understood he was responding to his alerter as a result of a 999 call received by ESFRS when the crash occurred in Wall Hill Road, Ashurst Wood.
No other vehicle was involved. Any one who saw what happened is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting Operation Wroxham.
