TEN men have been arrested after a group of people were seen getting out the back of a lorry parked in a layby.
Immigration enforcement officers were sent to Hastings Police Station yesterday, where the men were detained on suspicion of entering the UK illegally.
The lorry was spotted on the A259 near Icklesham, Rye, at 3.40pm yesterday.
They were passed over to the UK Border Agency for interviewing and assessment.
A police helicopter was scrambled initially to help with a search that led to nine men, including the driver, being arrested.
A tenth man was arrested this morning. Everyone arrested was found in the local area close to the main road.
The driver of the lorry, a 52-year-old man from Austria, was arrested on suspicion of helping asylum seekers enter the UK.
He was released without charge at about 11.10am today.
