A FAMILY were stunned to find their kitchen had been miraculously transformed into a fairytale wonderland.

Their modern dining table had been replaced by a red toadstool and a giant beanstalk had emerged next to their kitchen worktops.

The Argus: The kitchen before its makeover

Moving broomsticks, a giant bunny rabbit and spooky well were also in the kitchen as the family returned home from a trip out.

Mother Charlotte Dutton, 30, had entered a competition which aimed to give one family's kitchen a mystical revamp.

Her home was given a dramatic fantasy makeover by expert designers at McCain who decided to create a once-in-a-lifetime moment for the family.

Charlotte and her husband Richard, also 30, were shocked to see their kitchen in Brighton had been completely transformed.

The Argus:

Their children Jasmin, 5, and James, 7, could barely believe their eyes as bunnies hopped out of cupboards and a wizard emerged during tea time.

Mrs Dutton said: "When we walked in and saw the full extent of the transformation I was absolutely stunned.

"There wasn't one single recognisable surface or cupboard."

The Teatime Takeover competition was run by McCain.

The Argus:

Mr Dutton added: "We knew the Teatime Takeover team were going to add a bit of magic to our kitchen but the reality was truly out of this world.

"The kids were absolutely blown away and they haven't stopped talking about it since it happened.

"We even invited some of the neighbours' kids round to enjoy it, we're certainly talk of the town round here."

The Argus:

Greg Foster, from the Teatime Takeover taskforce at McCain, said: "Teatime can all too often pass us by and at McCain we think it's really where the good stuff happens.

"It's such an important part of family life and we want people to enjoy their teatimes together.

"It was great to be able to give the Dutton family a night to remember and we've got some more exciting plans coming up to put teatime back on the map."

McCain hosted the competition from June to July and the Dutton family were selected to be the winners with 10 runners up receiving supermarket vouchers.
