More than 50 firefighters are battling to put out a major blaze at a rural house.

Fire crews from across West Sussex are tackling flames at a derelict home in Beedingwood, Forest Road, Horsham.

Emergency services were called out at 7.20am today.

At first it was thought there were people trapped inside the building, but now no one is thought to be inside.

Sussex Police said they had yet to go inside the house, which could be in danger of collapsing.

Eight fire engines are still on the scene, with crews from Horsham, Crawley, Partridge Green, Shoreham, Hurstpierpoint, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill. The road has been closed to all vehicles except emergency vehicles.

i bet it was probably the developers that carried it out. it's cheaper to let a building just burn to the ground rather than letting it fall/demolition.... a huge shame since it's lain derelict since the 80s.

This is such a shame, 2 months ago I visited Beedingwood. Check out the Beedingwood gallery here: http://www.horshamite.co.uk/Gallery.htm
