The A27 at Shoreham will not now reopen until Bank Holiday Monday, Sussex Police's top officer has revealed.

The road has been closed in both directions between the A2025 and the A283 near Shoreham-by-Sea, since 1.20pm on Saturday.

Ongoing investigations continue on the main truckroad across the county into the fatal plane crash which is highly likely to have claimed the lives of 11 people.

Referring to the reopening of the road, Sussex Police chief constable Giles York said that it will reopen on Monday after three days of repairs, but will be reduced to a single lane each way - causing some delays.

There will not be any access from the A27 to Lancing College and the airport for some time.

In the meantime a diversion route has been set up to get motorists around the scene of the disaster.

Traffic at this time is able to divert eastbound by exiting the A27 before the closure, at the A24 junction, join A24 (N) towards Washington. Then join the A283 southbound to re-join A27, following the hollow black diamond symbol.

The westbound diversion is the reverse of the eastbound, following the hollow black triangle.
