Scores of people continued to pay their respects to wedding chauffeur Maurice Abrahams yesterday.

Nicknamed ‘The Brow,’ the 76-year-old was known as the neighbour everyone could rely on.

He died on the way to collect Rebecca Sheen, of Goring, for her wedding in Findon on Saturday. Mr Abrahams helped to put brides at ease just before they tied the knot, came to the rescue as a handyman, was a Paratrooper, had been in the Grenadier Guards, was a former police officer and had opened a fish and chip shop.

One of his closest friends Peter Baxter, 75, said he has dedicated the song When The Saints Go Marching In to Mr Abrahams “because he was one to so many”.

Commenting on The Argus front page and tribute to Mr Abrahams on Tuesday, Janet Howell said: “This is such a lovely to tribute to a man who was always willing to help, young or old.

“Maurice was our friend and neighbour, who passed by the house everyday, he would always stop for a chat and some banter, we will miss this cheeky smiling face immensely. Fly high with angels Maurice.”
