RUGBY fans have been warned not to trust a website selling Rugby World Cup tickets for the American Express Community Stadium worth up to £200.

Consumer group Which? has said fans should not use GetSporting.com, which claims to have hundreds of tickets for this autumn’s event.

The website is offering tickets for both games in Brighton this month featuring South Africa versus Japan and Samoa against the US for between £95 and £195.

The consumer group is also warning rugby fans away from buying from more established re-sale websites including as Viagogo and eBay owned StubHub.

Fans can pick up more than six tickets from Viagogo for South Africa versus Japan for as little as £77.68 each while StubHub claims to have 269 tickets for the same fixture.

The consumer champion said none of the sites have official approval from organisers and customers might find their tickets would be rejected at the turnstiles on match day.

Thousands of fans were left disappointed when they missed out when tickets first went on sale in October last year although more have since been released to the general public.

Which? said it does not believe the website GetSporting.com has the tickets that are being advertised for sold out matches such as England v Australia and England v Wales.

The publisher said their inquiries into the company’s track record indicated fans were “unlikely” to receive tickets or could even receive fake ones.

It has claimed the ticket vendor might be “operating unlawfully” and reported the business to Trading Standards.

Richard Lloyd, Which? executive director, said: "With fans trying to get last minute tickets to Rugby World Cup 2015, it’s an ideal time for ticket scammers to try to make a fast buck.

"We expect the authorities to take swift action against dodgy sites and we advise people to keep their wits about them. If an offer looks too good to be true, it probably is."

A Viagogo spokesman said: "Anyone that buys a Rugby World Cup ticket from Viagogo will get into the event.

"In the remote chance that there is any kind of problem at the gate we have a team standing by to solve it."

StubHub’s Nick Harford, said: "Rugby supporters can be confident in buying tickets through StubHub. We back every purchase made through our site with our market-leading FanProtect Guarantee."
