A GOLFER defied the odds after nailing a hole-in-one on the same hole his ex-wife aced a month earlier.

Geoffrey Bibby from Hove hit the perfect shot at West Hove Golf Club when he launched his five wood 193 yards straight into the cup.

But the 61-year-old soon learned he followed in the footsteps of his former wife Megan, who plays off 12 and is also the club secretary, after she achieved her third ace.

Mr Bibby, a 15 handicapper, said: "I hit a five-wood into the wind, which landed on the front edge of the green, then rolled into the hole.“I've been playing golf for about 30 years and hadn't played in about six weeks before achieving the ace, so I was thrilled when I saw the ball go in.

"Following my ace, I was astonished when I found out Megan had achieved a hole-in-one on the same hole as me - what are the odds?

"I was just checking the West Hove club website to see if there was a tournament on during my regular tee time, when I saw her news story pop up and nearly spat out my tea.

"We used to play together and we get along really well, so I was delighted for her."

Despite being beaten to the feat, he is now the proud owner of a specially-commissioned, commemorative watch thanks to Boss Watches.

The luxury German brand has once again pledged to reward club golfers with an exclusive watch for every hole-in-one recorded during a club competition in 2015, after giving away more than £1.4m-worth of limited-edition timepieces since its launch in 2013.

Stephen Brydon, commercial director for MGS Distribution, the official licensed UK distributor for Boss Watches, said: "Well done to Geoffrey for accomplishing one of golf's most elusive feats.

"For most amateur golfers, a hole-in-one is as memorable as winning The Masters would be to a professional. We want to ensure they have something tangible by which to remember the day, other than an expensive bar bill.”
