One of the great pleasures of festivals is lying in the patchy British summer sun and lazily enjoying live music.

The inaugaral Boomerang festival at Hickstead was opened by four-piece Brighton band The Dubarrys, and their relaxed, ambient sound fit the laid-back mood, a lovely introduction to the festival.

But it was husky-voiced soul singer Andreya Triana who stood out of the afternoon line-up. In a performance marked by infectious joy and enthusiasm, she seemed so happy on stage that when she sang “everything’s going to be alright”, it was genuinely believable.

From bouncy sing-along Gold to the smooth That’s Alright With Me, it was an extraordinary performance.

Saturday evening brought together classic bands The Proclaimers and Simple Minds, and both sets were packed with hits of the eighties and nineties.

Scottish twins The Proclaimers, best known for the ubiquitous I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), perform an entertaining and bouncy set, their unique sound still relevant and fun.

Although their music hasn't aged as well as The Proclaimers, Simple Minds still know how to put on an excellent live show.

Frontman Jim Kerr didn’t hold back with the stadium dramatics, and nearly 40 years after the band got together their originality and energy still remains.
