MOST people start to slow down in their mid-sixties, but this stuntman has just come off the back of a bar-fight with the Kray Twins.

Tony Van Silva, from Hove, features in Tom Hardy's new film Legend, based on the infamous London gangsters.

However, the blockbuster is just one of many on the 65-year-old's already impressive résumé.

Mr Van Silva doubles for a-lister Tom Hardy, who plays both of the hard-nosed mobsters, in the film’s bar fight scene.

It is the second time the former pro-wrestler has worked with the star – having also been in Bronson, where Hardy played Britain’s most dangerous prison Charlie Bronson.

Mr Van Silva said: “Tom Hardy is a fantastic actor and good guy. He gives it 100% and expects you to do the same.

“He did a mixed-martial arts film, Warrior, so he knows his stuff – he is great to work with.”

Legend chronicles the rise and fall of Britain’s most notorious gangsters and was released in cinemas last week.

Mr Van Silva started work as a stuntman in 1986 and over his near three decade-long career he has worked on films such as King Arthur, The Dark Knight, Captain America: The First Avenger and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

He started out as a wrestler but along the way he has become a specialist in karate, fights, fire stunts, bungee jumping and abseiling.

And despite his age he shows no signs of slowing down.

He said: “I am still training, I still work out and I still look after myself – that is the secret really.

“You have to respect all the jobs. Whether they are small or big – you can still injure yourself.

“The bigger the job the more care you take, but I have enjoyed them all.”

His career as a man of action started out on his 17th birthday when he had his first professional wrestling match at the Brighton Boys Club. Not long after he moved to London and work as a stuntman.

In between stunt work he was a plumber and a bouncer, before he got a foot in the door of the TV and film industries.

Legend is in cinemas now.
