A PERSON has been killed when they were hit by a train at Fishersgate Station.

British Transport Police, Sussex Police and the ambulance service were called to the scene at 4.13pm today but the individual was declared dead at the scene.

The authorities are now working to identify the person and the death is "not being treated as suspicious". 

It is estimated the line will be closed until 6pm while the emergency services deal with the scene.

A spokesman for Southern Railway said: "All lines closed between Brighton and Littlehampton while emergency services deal with an incident.

"Brighton & Hove buses are accepting Southern tickets between Brighton and Shorham."

This incident marks the second time in one week someone has been killed at Fishersgate station. 

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said: “We were called to Fishersgate station at 4.13pm on Friday, 18 September to reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended, and a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
