ONE of the country’s favourite pint-sized heroes is on his way back with a Sussex man lending his voice to narrate the show.

Danger Mouse, the world’s greatest secret agent, has returned with a brand new series and Brighton’s Dave Lamb is the narrator.

Better known for his quips voicing Channel 4s Come Dine With Me, he takes over from David Jason, who narrated the show in the 80s and 90s.

Mr Lamb, who is a shareholder at Lewes Football Club, said: “It was just fabulous, because I watched it as a kid – I think everyone my age, in my generation, watched it. It was just such a fabulous show.

"When you get offered something as iconic as that, you have to say yes.

"I’ve also got a seven year-old, so I started doing kids’ television because of her as it’s something she can watch and enjoy. When the chance came along to be a part of Danger Mouse, I grabbed it."

The 46-year-old’s wife Nikki Dowbiggin-Lamb and daughter Betty, seven, were invited to a special preview, and although the youngster loved the show, she is not always a fan of Daddy's work.

Mr Lamb said: "She really enjoys watching me although, with the Horrible Histories Gory Games I present, she much prefers the Horrible Histories sketch show that I’m not in.

"She’ll quite often say, ‘Daddy, can we watch the Horrible Histories without Daddy in it?’ It’s a little bit heartbreaking but they are very honest, children. Very honest indeed"

The opening episode on CBBC at 6pm yesterday - having last aired on ITV in 1992 - saw Danger Mouse’s return and almost instant dismissal after he inadvertently destroys most of London.

The new series is brought to life by a stellar line up of television talent including Alexander Armstrong as Danger Mouse, Kevin Eldon as Penfold, Stephen Fry as Colonel K, Shauna MacDoanld as Professor Squawkencluck and Mr Lamb as The Narrator.

Mr Lamb added: "I really do enjoy Kevin’s performance as Penfold. Alexander as Danger Mouse – he almost is Danger Mouse – it’s a brilliant performance. Kevin as Penfold is so sweet, and that high pitched voice – almost everything he says, I enjoy."
