AS AUTUMN rolls in as will the migrating birds who winter in Sussex.

Throughout September and into October birds will be arriving on our shores including Pintail Ducks and a small number of Scandinavian Peregrine Falcons.

Native Peregrine Falcons also hunt along migratory routes under the cover of darkness.

The Pintail Ducks join the local birds as they winter here - with numbers peaking in December before they return to their homes in February and March.

Last month the Sussex Wildlife Trust held an migration watch event at Rye Harbour.

Birdwatchers got to see hundreds of coastal birds and birds of prey as they started arriving in the saltmarsh nature reserve which provides essential feeding ground for ducks, waders and gulls.
