The Young’Uns showed their class at their concert at the Chiddingly Festival and proved exactly why they were named best group at the 2015 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

With a fourth album under their belt and a tour of Canada behind them, this was a band that is clearly going places.

The Tyneside trio have an extraordinary vocal range and most of their songs were delivered without the need of backup instruments.

At times, the audience could be forgiven for thinking there was a full choir on stage and not just three singers.

The set included songs penned by band, but the boys remained true to their love of classic, traditional folk.

These were singers who clearly enjoy their music and their commitment to their art shone through their unselfconscious performances.

Interspersed with an Ant and Dec line in chatter, the stories behind the songs were brought to life with an interesting commentary.

With their ability to form a rapport with the audience, the show was ideally suited to a small or medium sized venue.

But the strength of the show was in the power and range of the voice and not in any visual gimmick.
