BRIGHTON’S sandiest strip of beach is increasing participation in volleyball.

Yellowave Beach Sports Venue in Madeira Drive is “leading the way” in developing enthusiasm for the sport, according to Lisa Wainwright, CEO of Volleyball England.

The Brighton beachfront venue has become the breeding ground for beach volleyball players and now has three junior sections - Kids, Juniors and the Yellowave Academy.

Damion Sulc, Yellowave Juniors' coach, said: "The kids' sessions used to only run from April to September but now the youngsters are asking to play year round in all weather.

“They have taken to the sport so well.”

Denise Austin, England Junior Beach Volleyball head coach, said: "We've seen a massive increase in players from Brighton competing in tournaments across the UK, once they become hooked on the sport at Yellowave it becomes an essential part of their lives.”
