TWO police officers who took a video selfie at the site of the Shoreham Airshow disaster have attended an internal disciplinary hearing, Sussex Police have said.

The new recruits could be booted out of the force after they filmed a selfie while working at the cordon of the disaster and it was sent to a colleague via SnapChat with an offensive message.

Deputy Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney said earlier this month she did not believe they made an “honest mistake” and she had decided they should be dealt with using Regulation 13, a disciplinary process for officers on probation.

A Sussex Police spokesman said the officers attended their Regulation 13 meetings on Wednesday (September 30).

The spokesman added: “A chief officer will assess the evidence and a recommendation will be made to the Chief Constable as to their future. The outcome will be made known early this week.”

Ms Pinkney had said she did not believe the officers were “likely to become well-conducted constables” based on the evidence she had seen.

She added: “I don’t believe this behaviour was an honest mistake. Instead, it was a deliberate choice to behave in a wholly disrespectful way.

“I would like to apologise again to the victims’ families for the unnecessary distress this has undoubtedly caused them.”
