EMERGENCY services were called after residents heard a man shouting in the road in the early hours.
Police officers and ambulance staff went to Tamworth Road, Hove, at about 4.30am today.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said there was concern for a man in a car which stopped in the road.
The fire service was called in case the man, thought to be aged in his 30s or 40s, had to be rescued in some way, but the crew was not needed.
It appears there was concern for the health of the man, though details are not clear.
An ambulance spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a man in a car in need of medical attention.
"He was assessed and treated before being taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton."
