BACK to the Future's Delorean, a velociraptor from Jurassic Park and R2D2 himself graced thousands of fans at a comic convention.

Almost 10,000 fans flocked to the first Brighton Film and Comic Con at the Hilton Brighton Metropole over the weekend.

Fans of film, TV and comics got to meet their heroes including Star Wars star Kenny Baker, John Hurt and Carl Weathers.

Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Pokemon filled the crowd.

There was no shortage of Batmen, WWF wrestlers, an entire collection of Doctor Whos and characters like John Snow from Game of Thrones, Thor from the Avengers and a Gambit from XMen mingling amongst the Hollywood stars.

James Marsters, known for his roles in the long running television shows, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel said: “It’s just been amazing to be here and meet all these intelligent and wonderful people. It’s been so busy, in a good way.”

Gemma Baker, 33 from Brighton dressed up as Red Dwarf character Kochanski, she said: “There’s a real feeling of community spirit here. There’s just been so much to enjoy.”

Richard Arnold from LA is a Star Trek fanatic who diverted from his cruise around Europe to attend the event.

He said: “It’s wonderful to come to these events and this has been great, especially when you see people in costume and having fun.”

Organisers Showmasters said they plan to return to the city and come back bigger and better next year.

Jill Ubdegrove marketing and PR manager for Showmasters said: “This weekend has been amazing for a launch event in Brighton. "We’ve really managed to pull crowds in despite the weather and from the feedback we’ve received everyone seems to have had a fantastic time.”
