A WOMAN has been left with "potentially life-threatening head injuries" after she is believed to have lost control on an icy road. 

Emergency services were called to the scene on the B2038, about 100 yards from the junction with Park Lane, Lindfield, at 8am on Sunday.

The driver of a blue Fiat 500, a 43-year-old woman from Lindfield, was airlifted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where she remained on Monday being treated for serious head and neck injuries.

The driver of a grey Audi A4, which was hit during the incident, a 59-year-old man from Haywards Heath, suffered minor injuries, but did not require hospital treatment.

The road remained closed until just after 12 noon.

A spokesman for Sussex Police described her injuries as "potentially life-threatening" and said she is believed to have lost control in the icy condtions.
