A 50m cordon has been set up in Brighton after a discovery in a garden.

The Army's bomb disposal team has been called to Moulsecoomb Way after a mortar shell was found.

A 43-year-old mother living in the street got a phonecall from her 19-year-old daughter saying there was a bomb in the road.

She said: “My daughter rang me and said there was a bomb in one of the gardens a couple of doors down.

“A stranger walked by and told her there was a bomb, so that was pretty scary especially after everything that’s happened in Paris and things.

“Thankfully I was only about five minutes away on the bus, so I came back and I found out then it was an old wartime bomb.

“At first I thought it was my daughter pulling my leg, but it was a bit scary.”

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "There is a 50m cordon in place at the moment but that is just a precaution.

"We will review the situation once The Army have been and carried out their work."
