A FREE gig takes place tomorrow to offset the disappointment of a charity concert being cancelled.

The Diablos and Micky Hart And The Hartbreakers were among the bands due to play at the Lido Night Christmas Special at Saltdean Lido this Saturday.

But after the show was cancelled by the Saltdean Community Association (SCA) over health and safety fears, as reported in The Argus on Wednesday, the bands are playing a free gig elsewhere.

It takes place at the White Horse in Rottingdean this Saturday and runs from 9pm until 11pm.

Organiser Chris Nieto, who was putting on the night, was "devastated" that the Lido show was cancelled and felt his justification to make it happen, including a potential £2,000 for the venue, fell on deaf ears.

Mr Nieto claimed he was given 12 days' notice of cancellation.

The SCA pulled the plug following concerns over the state of fire escapes and lighting serving the venue’s ballroom.

It told The Argus it tried to make the show happen but the risks did not outweigh the benefits.
