A MAN is on the run after robbing hundreds of pounds from a post office, police said.

He fled in a silver car towards Brighton after threatening a staff member with a knife, police believe.

Hundreds of pound were stolen in the robbery of the Post Office in Lewes Road, Ditchling, at about 2.15pm yesterday (Wednesday).

The robber approached a member of staff, threatened him with a knife and demanded cash from the till, Sussex Police said.

A spokesman added: "The staff member was forced to hand over several hundred pounds and the robber fled on foot into South Street, and then into Beacon Road, where he got into a silver car, which drove off in the direction of Brighton.

"No make or model for the car is known at this stage."

The victim was shaken by the incident, but is otherwise unharmed.

The attacker is described as a white man of mediterranean appearance, aged around 30, 5'9", and of slim build with black hair and dark eyes.

He was wearing a medium grey jacket with a hoody underneath.

Detective Inspector Neil Ralph asked anyone with information, or who had seen the man or the car, to get in touch.
