TWO police officers have been suspended and are being investigated for gross misconduct.

The police constables, both men aged 25 and 32, are based in the west of the county.

They were suspended on Friday after discrepancies were found in statements during an internal audit. An investigation has been launched by Sussex Police’s professional standards department.

Superintendent Lisa Bell, head of the department, said: “Sussex Police and the public expect the highest personal and professional standards from anyone who works for us. The police constables, both response officers, have been suspended while we carry out an internal investigation.”

The news follows the decision to sack inspector Lee Lyons after he accepted 21 allegations of misconduct including that he contacted prostitutes while on duty.
