Daughter’s current UK tour follows the release of second album Not To Disappear, and after last night's stunning gig at the Dome it’s not hard to see why it’s had rave reviews from all sides.

Singer Elena Tonra’s fragile, haunting vocals floated above a sonic wall of sound redolent of Sigur Ros or the xx, her intricate, anguished lyrics (‘I sometimes wish I’d stayed inside my mother’) straying unapologetically into shoegazing territory yet without ever seeming self-indulgent.

Waves of reverb-heavy guitar and vocals, drenched with layers of synth, pared down drums, moody lighting and a smoke machine, created a beautifully atmospheric feel, and the band was supported by a talented female keyboard player and guitarist whose soaring backing vocals added further depth and poignancy.

Tonra and guitarist Igor Haefeli’s endearingly timid between song thank yous to an enrapt audience added extra charm.

The 90 minute set included songs from their 2013 debut If You Leave, while new tracks such as the painfully reflective Doing The Right Thing, Alone/With You and Youth proved that the band are even more assured and compelling then when they first appeared in 2010. Spellbinding.
