A DOG has died and his elderly owner left with a broken leg after a flint wall collapsed in the wind.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene in Blakes Road, Bognor.

The ambulance service had released the man before the arrival of the fire service.

The fire service said the dog was confirmed dead at the scene and the man was taken to hospital with a broken leg this morning at 7.56am.

A spokesman for Secamb said: "We received the call at 7.50am with reports of a man in his 70s being injured reportedly by garden wall, described as 5 foot high, which had blown over in the street.

"One ambulance crew sent to the scene. He suffered a suspected leg fracture and was treated at the scene. Although fully conscious he was taken to St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester as a priority."
