BRIGHTON and Hove Albion’s mascot joined up with Spongebob Squarepants to break a world record.

Gully, the club’s resident seagull, was part of a team of mascots who took on the dreaded penalty shootout to write their names into history.

They were aiming to set the Guinness World Records title for the highest number of football penalty kicks scored by a team of mascots in one minute.

Gully and Spongebob were joined by a host of other Football League mascots from across the country and managed 16 to smash the record.

The whole team consisted of Billy the Badger (Fulham), Captain Blade (Sheffield United), Digger the Dog (Dagenham & Redbridge), Happy Harry (Luton Town), Haydon the Womble (AFC Wimbledon), Nelson the Dog (Portsmouth), Rammie (Derby County), Robyn the Robin (Charlton Athletic), Wolfie and Wendy (Wolverhamton Wanderers), Charlton Athletic’s Sir Valiant, Peter Burrow (Peterborough), Ewie (Derby County) and Clarence the Dragon (Northampton Town).

It was all done as part of filming for Nick Kicks, Nickelodeon’s new family football show covering The Football League on Saturday nights.

Shaun Harvey, Chief Executive of The Football League said: “Offering a fun insight in to life at clubs up and down the country, Nick Kicks will help us to engage and inspire a new generation of Football League fans.

“We look forward to working with Nickelodeon on Nick Kicks in what is another exciting first for The Football League.”

The show will take a light-hearted look at the week’s action with Roman Kemp and Rachel Stringer, who have been signed as presenters.

Alison Bakunowich, head of editorial at Nickelodeon UK and Ireland, said: “We know that UK kids love football whether it’s played in stadiums or in the back garden so it is brilliant to be producing a series that will bring families a Nickelodeon take on the nation’s top sport.

“Nick Kicks is going to be funny and will give fans a unique look at their favourite clubs and players.”
